Ireland against EMI

URGENT: FIFTEEN TRILLION DOLLARS MISSING/LAUNDERED/MISAPPROPRIATED - Nothing to do with Music Industry, but please check it out!

First of all, if you have not yet opposed ACTA and TPP, please do so now.

UPDATE: "SOPA Ireland" was passed 29 Feb 2012, but the principle still stands.

Please watch this video in HD:

What's this all about?

This is a case of the music industry thinking that it's entitled to sue a government for not passing laws it wants. Read that sentence again to make sure you took it in. That's right. An industry thinks it has the right to create laws and sue the government when it doesn't get what it wants! Please note that EMI has so far got the brunt of this campaign, because it is the first on the list of plaintiffs, therefore is in the title of the lawsuit. However, all of the major music companies are involved.

That's ridiculous! What exactly is the problem?

EMI, along with the other three of the world's big four record label groups, is now trying to bully the Irish government into passing SOPA-like internet censorship legislation. In what is possibly the most ridiculous legal debacle in the history of the state, if not the world, the corporations are suing the government because the legislation which has been nicknamed “Ireland's SOPA” has, in their opinion, been taking too long to create and enact.

They are bullying the government and, by extension, us, the taxpayers. I don't know about you, but I certainly won't stand for it. For information on what products to avoid, please see EMI and you.
