As if all the censorship I already highlighted
wasn't enough, UMG sued Veoh, a YouTube-like video hosting
service, and ended up destroying it. The
entire
appalling tale is available at Minglewing, the new website
of Veoh's founder. Basically, UMG ignored copyright law and hurled
a ridiculous lawsuit against the company without sending takedown
notices first. To make absolutely sure the site died, it also sued
investors in the site. It ended up losing the case, but appealed
it. It eventually lost the appeal, but at that stage, the company
had already been destroyed. This isn't even mentioning the effect
on the founder's personal life, which you can read at the post
linked above.
